Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fire hazard) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria.
Plain-English summary
Marley Engineered Products LLC is recalling approximately 30 Dayton Electric Baseboard Heaters, model 3UG82D. These white, rectangular heaters were sold at Grainger branch stores nationwide from December 2009 through March 2010 for about $50. The recall specifically includes units purchased after December 21, 2009, with a date code of "1209" on the nameplate.
The heaters are labeled for 240 or 208 volt use, but some units contain an internal heater built for a maximum of 120 volts. If connected to a 240 or 208 volt electrical circuit as directed, the unit could catch fire. Affected units have yellow and white wires inside the electrical access panel; units with red and black wires are not included in this recall. No injuries or fires have been reported.
Consumers should immediately stop using the heaters and inspect the nameplate to determine if the product is involved in the recall. If the date code is "1209," consumers should disconnect the product at the circuit breaker or fuse. A qualified electrician should inspect the wire colors to confirm if they are yellow and white. Consumers can return affected heaters to Marley for a free replacement, and Marley will pay reasonable labor charges for inspection and exchange.
