What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the hazard (electrical shock or burns) has not yet resulted in reported injuries, fitting the criteria for a High severity score.
Plain-English summary
Fluke Corporation is recalling approximately 33,000 units of the Fluke VoltAlert® Voltage Detector. The recall involves the 1AC-A1-I model, which measures 90 to 1000 volts alternating current (VAC). The testers feature a yellow, white, and gray pen-like body with "Fluke" and the model number printed on the front.
The hazard exists because the testers can fail to give an indication of live voltage. This failure may cause operators to falsely believe that electrical power is off, resulting in a risk of serious injury or death from electrical shock or thermal burns. No injuries have been reported in connection with this recall.
The affected units were sold through industrial distributors and electrical wholesalers nationwide from September 2009 through February 2010 for about $25. Consumers should stop using the recalled product immediately and contact Fluke for a free replacement. For additional information, consumers can contact Fluke toll-free at (888) 983-5853 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. PT Monday through Friday or visit www.fluke.com/1AC-A1recall.
