Campbell Hausfeld is recalling approximately 16,000 model HU200099AV air compressors with 20-gallon tanks. These units were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from January 2009 through June 2009 for about $250. The model number and date code can be found on the back of the tank.
The recall is due to a fire hazard. The compressor's thermal overload, which is designed to shut the unit off when it overheats, can fail. This failure can lead to overheating, melting of parts, and a risk of fire. No injuries have been reported.
