GE Recalls Profile Ranges Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

GE Consumer & Industrial is recalling approximately 28,000 GE Profile 30-inch Freestanding Dual Fuel ranges. The affected models include the J2B900 and J2B915, which were sold in white, black, bisque, and stainless steel. These ranges were sold at department and appliance stores nationwide from June 2002 through December 2005 for between $1,300 and $2,000.
The recall is due to a defect where the wiring in the rear of the range can overheat. This overheating poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers. GE is aware of 47 reports of overheated wiring, including 33 reports where the wiring caught fire.
Consumers should immediately stop using the oven portion of the range and contact GE for a free repair. The cooktop burners may continue to be used.
