Plain-English summary
GE Consumer & Industrial is recalling approximately 244,000 wall ovens sold under the GE®, GE Profile™, Monogram®, and Kenmore® brand names. The recall involves ovens sold in white, black, bisque, and stainless steel between October 2002 and December 2004. Specific model and serial numbers are listed in the official recall notice and can be found on the left interior wall of the oven or microwave.
The hazard exists if the wall oven door is removed and incorrectly re-attached by an installer or consumer. In this condition, the door will not open into the flat position, and extreme heat from the self-clean cycle can escape, posing a fire and burn hazard. GE is aware of 28 incidents of minor property damage involving adjacent kitchen cabinets, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately inspect their ovens to ensure the door opens into the flat position. If the door is incorrectly re-attached, consumers should not use the self-clean cycle and should contact GE for a free repair. Normal baking or broiling functions may be used until the repair is completed. For assistance, consumers can call GE toll-free at (888) 569-1588 or visit www.GEAppliances.com.
