Plain-English summary
General Power Products LLC is recalling approximately 13,000 6000 Watt portable generators, including models branded as General Power Products and Poulan Pro. The recall affects units with serial numbers 060400483 through 060600725, which were manufactured in China. The serial number is stamped on the engine block on the front of the engine below the control panel.
The recall is due to a fire hazard. The generator's fuel valve can be damaged by the cover plate during shipment, which may cause fuel to leak or spill during use. General Power Products has received 14 reports of damaged fuel valves, but no injuries have been reported.
These generators were sold for between $600 and $800 at hardware and home improvement stores primarily in Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Ohio, and Texas from June 2008 through September 2008. Consumers should immediately stop using the generators and contact All Parts, which is handling the recall, to determine if the fuel valve is damaged and to receive a free repair kit and instructions if necessary.
