MTD, of Brownsville, Tenn., is recalling about 700 Cub Cadet 4x4 EFI Volunteer Utility Vehicles. The recall is due to a defect where excessive heat can cause the wiring harness to melt, which presents a fire hazard to consumers.

The affected vehicles are four-wheel-drive models with "Cub Cadet, Tracker Edition" printed on the side panel and "Volunteer" printed on the side of the open cargo bed. They are equipped with a Kohler electronic fuel-injected engine. MTD has received five reports of heat damage to the vehicles, but there have been no reports of personal injury.

These vehicles were sold at Cub Cadet dealerships and Bass Pro retail outlets nationwide from March 2008 through April 2008 for between $9,700 and $10,500. Consumers should stop using these vehicles immediately and contact their Cub Cadet dealership to have the vehicle serviced at no charge. All known consumers have been contacted, and reworked vehicles will have a green "X" label on the model/serial tag.
