Plain-English summary
Polaris Industries Inc. is expanding a recall of approximately 95,000 2005 through 2006 model year Polaris Sportsman and Scrambler 500 All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The recall involves specific model and serial numbers, which are listed on the CPSC website and can be found on decals attached to the front side of the radiator or the top of the front cab cover, as well as stamped into the left frame rail.
The ATVs may have defective Electronic Control Modules (ECMs) that can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to riders. Since the original recall was announced in June 2005, Polaris has received 372 additional reports of smoking and/or melted ECMs, along with 20 reports of fires, nine of which involved property damage beyond the ATV. No injuries have been reported.
