Gevalia Kaffe Combo Coffeemakers Recalled for Burn Hazard

Gevalia is recalling approximately 21,000 Kaffe Combo Coffeemakers, model number CM830, due to a burn hazard. The recalled product is a 12-cup programmable coffeemaker with a glass carafe and two travel mugs. The "Gevalia" name is on the front of the unit, and the model number is located on the bottom. No other Gevalia coffeemakers are affected by this recall.
The heating element in the recalled coffeemakers can melt the plastic outer shell, which poses a burn hazard to consumers. Gevalia has received 28 reports of overheated coffeemakers, including 12 reports of damaged counter tops and one report of a minor burn from spilled coffee.
The recalled coffeemakers were distributed directly to consumers who joined the Gevalia Kaffe program and through catalog sales from September 2006 through January 2007. Consumers should immediately stop using the coffeemaker and contact Gevalia at (800) GEVALIA or visit www.gevalia.com for a free replacement. Those who purchased the coffeemaker will be offered the option of receiving a refund. Gevalia is also contacting all registered consumers directly.
