What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (lead toxicity) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the High severity criteria in the rubric.
Plain-English summary
Mattel Inc. is recalling approximately 253,000 Sarge die-cast toy cars due to a violation of federal lead safety standards. The surface paints on these toys could contain lead levels in excess of federal limits. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
The recalled toys are 2.5-inch military jeep-style cars marked with "7EA" and "China" on the bottom. They were sold individually or in sets at retail stores nationwide from May 2007 through August 2007 for between $7 and $20. Product numbers M1253 (single) and K5925 (set) may appear on the packaging. Cars marked "Thailand" are not included in this recall.
No injuries have been reported. Consumers should immediately take the recalled toys away from children and contact Mattel to return the product for a replacement toy.
