What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk of falling parts that could strike consumers, which fits the rubric criterion for 'risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.'
Plain-English summary
Gotham Architectural Lighting, a division of Acuity Lighting Group Inc., is recalling approximately 4,700 units of the Gotham 8-inch APR/APRH Down Lighting Fixtures. The recall was initiated because the reflector/trim pieces may not be properly attached to each other, creating a risk that the lower portion of the assembly could detach and fall from the ceiling, striking consumers.
The affected fixtures feature clear, black, pewter, wheat, umber, gold, or champagne gold finishes on the trim. The recall includes only models APR incandescent and APRH high-intensity discharge down lights with 8-inch openings. Acuity Lighting Group has received three reports of the fixture's reflector parts falling, but no injuries have been reported.
The products were sold through lighting and electrical supply distributors between March 2005 and June 2006 for between $85 and $220. Gotham Lighting is directly contacting facility managers and business owners to schedule an inspection and free repair. Consumers who have not been contacted should call Gotham Lighting at (800) 315-4982 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.gothamlighting.com.
