Plain-English summary
Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. (BRP) is recalling approximately 3,600 Ski-Doo snowmobiles, specifically the Model Year 2005 and 2006 Mach Z and Model Year 2006 MX Z Renegade 1000 models. These vehicles were sold at Ski-Doo dealers nationwide from September 2004 through March 2006 for between $9,300 and $11,600.
The recall addresses a defect where cracks can appear in the starter ring gears, causing them to fragment at high speeds. The resulting debris can act as a projectile, potentially causing injury or death to riders or bystanders. BRP has received six reported incidents of fragmentation, including three reported injuries: a laceration to a rider's foot requiring stitches and a fractured toe.
Consumers should stop using these vehicles immediately and contact a local Ski-Doo dealer to schedule a free repair. BRP is sending direct notice to consumers. For more information, consumers can call BRP toll-free at (888) 638-5397 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.ski-doo.com.
