Weil-McLain Recalls GV Series Boilers Due to Gas Leak Risk
Weil-McLain is recalling 1,131 GV Series Boilers because a blower assembly defect may allow gas to leak, posing a fire or explosion risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk of fire or explosion due to gas leaks, which is a high-risk hazard, but the source explicitly states that no incidents or injuries have been reported.
Plain-English summary
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Weil-McLain Company are recalling 1,131 GV Series Boilers, specifically Models GV-3, GV-4, GV-5, and GV-6. The affected units were built between April 1, 2005, and October 31, 2005, and have serial numbers ranging from CP5075477 to CP5221234. These serial numbers and date codes are located on the left side of the jacket, above the boiler rating label.
The recall is due to a defect in the blower assembly, which is not properly sealed. This issue can cause gas to leak during operation and accumulate. If an ignition source is present, this accumulation could result in a fire or explosion. There are no reports of incidents or injuries associated with this defect.
The boilers were sold through plumbing and heating wholesale companies to independent plumbing and heating contractors. The price to the consumer, not including installation, ranged from approximately $2,200 to $3,200. Weil-McLain repaired all recalled boilers at no cost to consumers. Consumers can contact Weil-McLain at (219) 879-6561 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, and ask for Consumer Relations, or visit the company's website at www.weil-mclain.com.
