Plain-English summary
Kelty Division of American Recreation Products Inc. is recalling approximately 230 Kelty Speedster jogging strollers. The recall is due to a defect in the handle-locking clips, which can unlock during use and cause the stroller to collapse. The affected strollers have an aluminum frame, a cloth seat, and a sun canopy. They were sold from May 2005 through July 2005 at juvenile baby product stores, sporting goods stores, and web retailers for $250.
The recalled strollers have model number 20050016 and serial numbers S1000001D0504 through S1000800D0504 and S1000001D0506 through S1000200D0506. A tag inside the child's seat compartment lists the model name and number, while a sticker on the rear frame lists the serial number. The strollers feature two yellow handle-locking clips, one on each side of the frame, that secure the handle from movement. Kelty received two reports of the handle clips unlocking during use, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should stop using the stroller immediately and call Kelty at (800) 535-3589 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. MT, Monday through Friday, to arrange a return. Kelty will provide a full refund and a free daypack for all units returned. Purchasers were notified of the recall via direct mail.
