The recall was initiated because the charger's circuit board can overheat, causing the plastic cover to melt, which poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
The company has received 143 reports of the charger overheating, including one report of fire damage. No injuries have been reported. The chargers were sold nationwide at electronics and discount department stores, catalogs, and various websites from April 2005 through March 2006 for about $20 when sold alone, or between $40 and $50 as part of kits.
