Manco and Sunright Go-Karts Recalled for Throttle Control Hazard

CPSC recalls about 3,200 Manco and Sunright go-karts because the throttle may fail to return to idle, posing a loss of control risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a loss of control hazard where the throttle fails to return to idle. While three incidents were reported, no injuries have occurred, fitting the rubric for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling approximately 3,200 two-seat go-karts, including the Manco Blazer model 1050L-09 and Sunright International model RTV50-SK50. These vehicles are equipped with a 49 cc engine and electric start. The recall is due to a defect where the throttle controlling the engine can fail to return the vehicle to idle speed, creating a loss of control hazard for the driver.

Manco go-karts were sold nationwide from November 2005 through December 2005 for about $900. Sunright go-karts were sold in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas from August 2005 through November 2005 for prices ranging from $900 to $1,100. The recalled units have specific VIN ranges: Manco VINs 1095292 through 1099782 and Sunright VINs 04100017 through 05100771. Sunright International and Manco Power Sports Inc. have received three reports of incidents where the throttle did not return to idle speed, though no injuries have been reported.

Consumers should stop using the recalled go-karts immediately. Registered owners will be notified directly by Manco or Sunright. To schedule a free repair, consumers should call or visit the retail location where the go-karts were purchased. For more information, contact Manco at (800) 643-7332 or Sunright at (888) 737-7488.
