Plain-English summary
HSN LP is recalling approximately 3,900 Welbilt Electronic Pressure Cookers, model number PC501. The recalled cookers were sold in white and measure 11 inches high, 11 inches wide, and 15 inches long. The model number is located near the control panel, on the instruction/warning label near the bottom of the unit, and on the bottom of the product.
The recall is being issued because the lid on these pressure cookers can open prematurely while the contents are under pressure. This defect allows hot contents to be expelled, which can cause scald or burn injuries to individuals in the immediate area. HSN has received 43 reports of the lids opening prematurely, resulting in 37 reports of burn injuries, including at least four third-degree burns.
The cookers were sold by HSN through its toll-free number and website from September 2001 through July 2002 for about $100. They were also sold at HSN employee stores in Salem, Virginia, and St. Petersburg, Florida, and at HSN retail stores in Florida from September 2001 through November 2002 for between $30 and $35. Consumers should stop using these cookers immediately. HSN will provide a refund of the purchase price. For more information, call HSN toll-free at (877) 710-1527 or visit www.hsn.com.
