ITECH Recalls Hockey Goalie Masks and Replacement Wires Due to Breakage Risk
ITECH is recalling specific hockey goalie masks and replacement wires because the metal wire can break, posing a risk of facial injury.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has been reported (superficial facial and eye injuries), but no severe injuries or fatalities are documented, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for reported injuries without critical harm.
Plain-English summary
Mission-ITECH Hockey is recalling approximately 5,000 units of ITECH Profile 2100, 1100, and 8.0 hockey goalie masks, as well as ITECH RP607 and RP609 goalie mask replacement wires. The recalled masks are non-certified models with a cat-eye design, available in black or white, and feature the word "ITECH" printed on the sides and front. The replacement wires are black, white, and chrome with a unique side attachment design that uses four screws and posts without additional clips.
The recall was initiated because the metal wire on these products could break at or near a weld point. This defect exposes hockey goalies to the risk of facial injuries. ITECH has received three reports of injuries sustained from the wire breaking, which included superficial facial and eye injuries.
These products were sold at sporting goods and hockey specialty stores between January 1999 and September 2004. The masks were sold for about $250 and the replacement wires for about $60. Consumers should stop using the masks and replacement wires immediately and return them to the company for a free replacement unit. For more information, consumers can call ITECH toll-free at (877) 832-3366 or send an e-mail to [email protected].
