The recalled units were manufactured after March 1, 2004, and feature a blue test button. They can be identified by specific date codes (CN, DN, EN, FN, GN, HN, or JN) stamped in red on the label above the wiring terminal, or by specific catalog numbers such as QO115AFI, HOM120AFI, and others listed in the recall notice.

The recall is due to a potential electronic component failure that may cause the AFCIs to fail to detect electrical arcs from damaged insulation. While the devices will still function as regular circuit breakers, their inability to detect arc faults poses a safety risk. Schneider Electric is investigating one reported fire during new home construction that may be related to this issue, though no injuries have been reported.

The affected AFCIs were sold by electrical distributors and retailers between March 2004 and September 2004 for prices ranging from $30 to $130. Consumers should call the Customer Care Center at 888-778-2733 (888 SQUARED) or 1-800-634-8730 to arrange for a free replacement or refund. Installed units will be replaced free of charge through electrical contractors, while uninstalled units can be returned to the retailer or distributor for a free replacement.
