Plain-English summary

MAAX Spas is recalling approximately 13,000 Infinity and Lifestyle model spas manufactured in Canada. The recall involves spas equipped with a specific motor capacitor component from Motor Capacitors Inc. that can overheat, posing a fire hazard. Only units with a label on the motor reading "Tiny Might" are included in this recall.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and MAAX Spas have received more than 100 reports of the motor capacitor overheating. Twelve of these incidents resulted in fires. No injuries or property damage, other than to the spa itself, have been reported.

These spas were sold in the U.S. and Canada by MAAX spa dealers from January 1998 through December 2001 for between $4,000 and $8,000. Consumers should contact the MAAX Spa Fulfillment Center at (877) 259-0289 between 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday to determine if their model is included and to arrange for the installation of a free replacement pump motor capacitor.
