Plain-English summary
SCI Promotion Group LLC and Scripto-Tokai Corporation are recalling approximately 448,000 mini-flashlights. The black, plastic flashlights, which are about 5-1/4 inches long with a thin red ring around the barrel, were distributed as free gifts with the purchase of Aim n' Flame II multi-purpose lighters. The multi-purpose lighters themselves are not subject to this recall and have no safety issues.
The recall was initiated because the mini-flashlight's battery compartment can overheat, presenting a possible burn hazard to consumers. The company has received two reports of flashlights overheating, but no injuries have been reported.
The mini-flashlights were sold at home improvement, discount, convenience, grocery, and drug stores nationwide from September 2003 through November 2003 for between $4 and $6. Consumers should remove the batteries and discard the mini-flashlights. For more information, consumers can call SCI Promotion Group, LLC at (877) 746-7426 between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. PT Monday through Friday.
