Plain-English summary
Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. is recalling 732 units of the 2003 Kawasaki "KFX50" All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The recall addresses a potential failure of the weld securing the tie-rod plate to the steering column. If this weld fails, the plate can detach from the steering column, resulting in a loss of steering control.
The KFX50 is a small four-wheel ATV designed for use by adult-supervised children 6 years of age or older. The vehicles are lime green and feature "Kawasaki" branding on the front, rear, and sides. Kawasaki dealers sold these ATVs nationwide from August 2002 through January 2003 for approximately $1,799.
No injuries or deaths have been reported in connection with this defect. Consumers should contact their Kawasaki dealer to schedule an appointment to have the steering column replaced. For more information, consumers can contact Kawasaki toll-free at (866) 802-9381 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or visit www.kawasaki.com or www.buykawasaki.com.
