Plain-English summary
Hedstrom Corp. is recalling approximately 116,000 12-foot, 13-foot, and 14-foot trampolines sold under the brand names Hedstrom and NBF. The recalled units were sold separately or banded together with safety enclosures between January 2003 and May 2003 at department, toy, and discount stores nationwide for prices ranging from $160 to $360. The trampolines have model numbers 10136, 101366, 101442, 10146, 102369, 102949, 10321, 103217, or 10381, and feature four-digit date codes ranging from 0403 through 2103 with the last two digits always being 03.
The recall was initiated because welds on the trampoline frame can break during use, causing consumers to fall to the ground and suffer injuries. Hedstrom received about 700 reports of one or more welds breaking from the frame rails, resulting in 10 minor injuries.
Because the manufacturer is out of business, a remedy is no longer available. Consumers should stop using the trampolines immediately and discard or destroy the products to prevent injuries. For more information, consumers can call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772.
