Plain-English summary
Dollar Tree Stores Inc. is recalling approximately 310,000 stuffed pool animals sold nationwide from April 2002 through August 2002. The recalled items include eight types of brightly colored polyester animals: crab, duck, frog, octopus, seahorse, shark, turtle, and whale. These products were sold for $1 at Dollar Tree, Only One Dollar, Only $1, Dollar Express, and Dollar Bills stores. The animals feature a sewn-in label reading "DOLLAR TREE DISTRIBUTION, INC.," "MADE IN CHINA," and "RN# 87254."
The recall was issued because the seams on the stuffed animals can separate, exposing the internal polyester stuffing and a plastic bag containing foam beads. The exposed foam beads present a choking hazard to young children. CPSC and Dollar Tree have received one report of a seam ripping, exposing the stuffing and foam beads, but no injuries have been reported.
Consumers should immediately take these stuffed animals away from young children and return them to the store where purchased for a full refund. For more information, consumers can call Dollar Tree Stores at (800) 876-8077 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit www.dollartree.com.
