Leiner Health Products of Carson, Calif., is recalling approximately 14,000 bottles of Nature's Valley, Women's Formula Multivitamin. The recalled product is a dietary supplement containing iron, sold in brown plastic bottles with light yellow labels and green screw-on caps. The recall is limited to bottles with lot numbers IFA2750 and IFA2751, which are written vertically on the back of the bottle. The bottles have the UPC code 0 41163 27006 0.
The recall is being conducted because the supplements are not packaged in child-resistant packaging, as required under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. If ingested by children, these iron-containing supplements can cause serious injury or death. CPSC and Leiner have not received any reports of injuries involving these products; the recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injuries.
The supplements were sold nationwide at Albertson's, Jewel, Osco, Sav-on, and Acme stores from July 2001 through February 2002 for between $8 and $9. Consumers should immediately remove the bottles from the reach of young children and return them to the store where purchased for a refund.
