Trends Clothing Recalls Ocean Pacific Girls' Sweatshirts Due to Drawstring Hazard
Trends Clothing Corp. is recalling about 6,600 Ocean Pacific girls' hooded sweatshirts because the hood drawstrings pose a strangulation risk to children.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (strangulation hazard) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.
Plain-English summary
Trends Clothing Corp. is recalling approximately 6,600 Ocean Pacific® girls' long-sleeve hooded sweatshirts. The recalled items are navy blue, available in sizes 2T through 12, and feature either a pullover or zip-up front design. The sweatshirts are identified by an "OP" logo on the front and a collar label indicating they were made in Pakistan or Guatemala.
The recall is being conducted because the hood drawstrings present a strangulation hazard. Children can become entangled in the drawstrings if they catch on objects such as playground equipment, fences, or tree branches. CPSC and Trends Clothing Corp. have not received any reports of injuries involving these specific sweatshirts; the recall is a precautionary measure to prevent potential harm.
These garments were sold nationwide at Upton's, Lamont's, Gottschalks, and Sports Authority stores from August 1999 through October 1999 for approximately $30. Consumers should immediately remove the drawstrings from the garments or return them to the store of purchase for a refund. For more information, consumers can contact Trends Clothing Corp. at (800) 7-TRENDS (787-3637) between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday ET.
