Plain-English summary
Safari Ltd. of Miami, Fla., is recalling magnet games sold at small toy and gift stores nationwide from January 1999 through November 1999. The recalled products consist of a black round magnetic base and approximately 60 small, multi-colored metal figures shaped like butterflies, frogs, or fish. The specific items are identified as Magnetic Butterfly Rainbow (Item No. 6652-16), Magnetic Frog Fantasy (Item No. 6653-16), and Magnetic Coral Reef Collage (Item No. 6654-16). Each unit was packaged in a triangle-shaped box labeled "Ages 7 to 70...SAFARI...MADE IN TAIWAN" and imprinted with "Made in Taiwan" on the base.
The recall is being issued because the paint on the metal figures contains amounts of lead that exceed federal standards for children's products. Prolonged exposure to high levels of lead presents a lead poisoning hazard to young children. CPSC and Safari Ltd. are not aware of any injuries involving these products.
Consumers should immediately remove the metal figures from the magnetic base and discard them. Consumers may call Safari Ltd. at (800) 615-3111 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for replacement metal figures.
