Plain-English summary
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for approximately 43 pounds of not-ready-to-eat, heat-treated, not fully cooked chicken enchilada products. The alert was issued due to misbranding and the presence of an undeclared allergen, specifically soy. FSIS stated that a formal recall was not requested because the products are no longer available in commerce.
The affected product is the 62.4-oz. heat and serve container of “HyVee mealtime CHICKEN ENCHILADAS” with lot code “21003” and a “Best If Use By: 01/10/2021” date. The products bear establishment number “P51558” and were produced on January 3, 2021. These items were distributed to HyVee retail locations in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
The labeling issue was identified by a HyVee retail store employee and reported to the establishment. FSIS is concerned that some product may remain in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers with food allergies, particularly those with soy allergies, are urged not to consume these products and should throw them away. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
