K & W Sausage, an establishment in Evansdale, Iowa, is recalling approximately 1,761 pounds of sausage products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The affected products include 16-oz. vacuum-packed Hot Franks and various sizes of Polish Sausage Hot and Beef Polish Sausage Hot. These items contain soy and wheat, which are not declared on the product labels.
The issue was identified by FSIS inspection personnel during a food safety assessment. Investigation revealed that a natural hot flavor used in the products contained wheat and soy as sub-ingredients of soy sauce. The mislabeling in the Polish sausage products resulted from a change to using this ingredient. All products were distributed to retailers in Iowa.
