Plain-English summary
Triple T Specialty Meats, Inc., an Ackley, Iowa establishment, is recalling approximately 20,630 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken salad products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Typhimurium. The products were produced between January 2, 2018, and February 7, 2018, and bear establishment number P-21011 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The specific items subject to recall are labeled "CHICKEN SALAD, PACKED FOR FAREWAY WHOLESALE COMPANY" with pack dates ranging from 01/02/18 to 02/07/18.
The recalled products were shipped to Fareway grocery stores in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, and South Dakota. On February 9, 2018, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) was notified by Iowa health officials of an investigation into Salmonella Typhimurium illnesses. Iowa state agencies determined a link between the chicken salad and an outbreak, identifying 37 confirmed case-patients in Iowa with illness onset dates between January 14, 2018, and February 6, 2018. FSIS is continuing to work with health officials to determine if additional illnesses are linked to the product in other states.
Consumers who purchased these products are urged not to consume them. The products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. FSIS notes that some product may be frozen in consumers' freezers. Individuals concerned about an illness should contact their health care provider.
