Plain-English summary
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that two Taylor Farms establishments in Dallas, Texas, and Tracy, California, are recalling approximately 6,630 pounds of chicken and pork salad products. The recall involves 10.5 oz. trays of Signature Café Southwest Style Salad with Chicken and 8.25 oz. trays of H-E-B Shake Rattle & Bowl Rowdy Ranch Hand. These products were produced and packaged between February 6 and 9, 2017, and bear establishment numbers M/P-34013 or M/P-34733.
The recall was initiated after Sargento Foods, Inc., a supplier of Bevel Shred Pepperjack cheese used in these products, notified Taylor Farms of a potential Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) contamination. Sargento is recalling its cheese products out of an abundance of caution. The affected salad products were shipped to distribution centers in Los Angeles and Tracy, California; Portland, Oregon; and Houston, Roanoke, and San Antonio, Texas.
Consumption of food contaminated with Lm can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them and should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
