Ford EcoSport front half shafts can disconnect from the transmission

Ford is recalling certain 2021-2022 EcoSport vehicles because the front axle half shafts may disconnect from the transmission, causing a loss of drive power and a possible rollaway.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: a half shaft separating from the transmission is a structural driveline failure that removes drive power and can allow the vehicle to roll away.

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021-2022 EcoSport vehicles. About 18,648 units are potentially affected.

The front axle half shafts may disconnect from the transmission, which can result in a loss of drive power.

NHTSA states that a loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash, and that a disconnected half shaft can result in a vehicle rollaway if the parking brake is not applied.

Dealers will inspect and replace the half shafts as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 29, 2025. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
