Mack MD and Terrapro trucks recalled for incorrect weight rating

Mack is recalling certain 2024-2025 MD and Terrapro vehicles because the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) on the certification label is incorrect, allowing vehicles to be overloaded and increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace the label free of charge.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The incorrect GAWR labeling creates a risk-of-harm product—overloaded vehicles increase crash risk. No injuries or deaths are reported in the source, placing this in the risk-without-harm category that scores at most 3 per the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Mack Trucks, Inc. is recalling certain 2024 and 2025 MD vehicles and 2024 Terrapro vehicles. The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) listed on the vehicle certification label is incorrect.

An incorrect GAWR can allow the vehicle to be overloaded beyond its safe weight capacity, which increases the risk of a crash. These vehicles fail to comply with federal certification requirements under 49 CFR Part 567.

Approximately 26 vehicles are affected. Dealers will remove and replace the label free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 28, 2024. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for additional information.
