Micro Bird Recalls G5 School Buses Due to Wheelchair Track Defect

Micro Bird is recalling certain G5 school buses because wheelchair track anchorages may detach during a crash, increasing injury risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where wheelchair anchorages may detach during a crash, increasing the risk of injury, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and injury risk.

Plain-English summary

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. is recalling certain 2006-2008, 2010-2012, 2014-2015, and 2020-2021 G5 school buses equipped with transversal wheelchair track anchorages. The recall involves 22 vehicles in total.

The wheelchair track anchorages may not sufficiently secure a wheelchair and could detach during a crash. This defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 222, "School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection." If the anchorages detach, they may not adequately restrain an occupant, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

Dealers will reattach the transversal anchorages free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 17, 2024. Owners may contact Micro Bird customer service at 1-819-477-2012 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
