Hyundai Translead Recalls 2022 Dry Van Trailers Due to Steering Arm Fracture Risk

Hyundai Translead is recalling 2022 Dry Van trailers because a steering arm may fracture and fall off, increasing crash risk. Dealers will repair the issue free of charge.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where a component can fracture and separate, explicitly increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and significant injury risk.

Plain-English summary

Hyundai Translead is recalling certain 2022 V/T 53SW Q29485 VI2530154-AFJ Dry Van trailers. These vehicles are equipped with Dexter Smart-Steer 2.0 Axles with bolt-on steering arms.

The steering arm may fracture during certain conditions, such as low speed and high side-loading. If this occurs, the fractured steering arm and tie rod can separate and fall to the ground, which increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will install a new steering arm and additional welds free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 7, 2023. Owners may contact Hyundai Translead customer service at 1-800-251-0871 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
