Roush CleanTech Recalls Ford Trucks Due to Fuel Line Corrosion Risk
Roush CleanTech is recalling 3,285 altered 2016-2022 Ford trucks because zinc plating on fuel return lines may break away, causing corrosion and increasing fire risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fuel line corrosion) that explicitly increases the risk of a fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Roush CleanTech, LLC is recalling certain altered 2016-2022 Ford E350, E450, F450, F550, F53, F59, F650, and F750 trucks. The recall affects 3,285 vehicles that were sold or registered in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
The defect involves the zinc plating on the fuel return line, which may break away when contacted by road debris. This exposure can cause two dissimilar metals on the fuel line to contact each other and corrode. A corroded fuel line can leak fuel, which increases the risk of a fire.
Dealers will replace the fuel return lines free of charge. Interim owner notifications were mailed in August 2022, and remedy parts are expected to become available in January 2023. Owners may contact Roush's customer service at 1-800-597-6874 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
