2022 Kia Sorento Vehicles Recalled for Seatbelt Pretensioner Defect
Kia is recalling 2022 Sorento Hybrid and Sorento PHEV vehicles because the front seatbelt pretensioner(s) may explode during a crash, potentially projecting metal fragments at occupants. Dealers will replace the pretensioners at no cost.

Kia Motors America is recalling certain 2022 Sorento Hybrid and 2022 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. The front driver-side and/or passenger-side seatbelt pretensioner(s) may explode during deployment in the event of a crash.
An exploding seatbelt pretensioner can project metal fragments into the vehicle, potentially striking occupants and causing injury.
Owners should contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information. Kia dealers will replace the seatbelt pretensioner(s) free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 3, 2022.
This recall (NHTSA number 22V127000, Kia number SC231) has been superseded by NHTSA recall 22V-447. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
