BMW Recalls M2 and M4 Coupes for Fuel Injector Vibration Risk

BMW is recalling 2020-2021 M2 and 2020 M4 Coupes because missing fuel injector components may cause vibration, leading to fuel leaks and fire risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fuel system) that poses a significant risk of fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2020-2021 M2 Coupe and 2020 M4 Coupe vehicles. The recall addresses fuel injectors that may have been installed without a damping component, which is designed to reduce vibration.

If the damping component is missing, vibration can increase at the connection between the fuel line and the fuel rail. Over time, this vibration can result in damage to the connection. A damaged connection could lead to a fuel leak and, in the presence of an ignition source, increase the risk of a fire.

BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel injectors. If a damping component is missing, the injectors and the fuel rail will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on December 18, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
