Lakota Recalls 2018-2019 Trailers Due to Incorrect Tire Placard Data

Lakota is recalling 2018-2019 Bighorn, Charger, Colt, and Livestock Edition trailers because incorrect tire data on the Federal Placard could lead to tire overload and failure.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where tire failure could increase the risk of a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

Plain-English summary

Lakota Corporation is recalling certain 2018-2019 Lakota Bighorn, Charger, Colt, and Livestock Edition trailers. The recall involves approximately 300 vehicles that have incorrect tire data listed on the Federal Placard. This error causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims," and 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."

The defect may result in the tires being overloaded. If the vehicle is loaded to the limit provided on the label, the tires could fail, increasing the risk of a crash.

Lakota will notify owners, and dealers will provide new placards with the correct weight capacity data listed, free of charge. The recall began on March 18, 2019. Owners may contact Lakota customer service at 1-574-848-1636 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
