Mack Trucks Recalls 2019 Models Due to Tire Air Loss Risk

Mack is recalling 818 2019 LR, Granite, and TerraPro trucks because specific Bridgestone tires may lose air rapidly, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (tire sidewall cord exposure) that can cause rapid air loss and increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Mack Trucks, Inc. is recalling certain 2019 Mack LR, Granite (GR), and TerraPro (TE) trucks. The recall affects 818 vehicles equipped with specific Bridgestone M854, M860A, or M864 tires in size 425/65R22.5. The affected tires have specific DOT date codes: M854 tires with codes 2418-2518, M860A tires with code 2518, and M864 tires with codes 2318-2418.

The defect involves the sidewall steel body cords potentially becoming exposed, which can cause unexpected, rapid air loss while driving. This condition fails to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 119. Rapid tire air loss can increase the risk of a crash.

Mack will notify owners to take their vehicles to Bridgestone Tire or Mack truck service centers for inspection and replacement, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 19, 2018. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-866-1177 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
