Plain-English summary
Kia Motors America is recalling certain 2017 Kia Niro vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the Hybrid Propulsion System where the Hydraulic Clutch Actuator (HCA) inner oil seal may leak. This leak allows oil to accumulate in the cap area, which can result in an electrical short.
An electrical short can increase the risk of a fire. The recall affects 27,029 vehicles. Owners will be notified by Kia, and dealers will inspect the HCA caps for leaked oil. If needed, dealers will replace the HCA assembly or the HCA cap with additional sealant. These repairs will be performed free of charge.
The recall is expected to begin on June 15, 2018. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 for more information. Kia's number for this recall is SC163.
