Norcold Recalls RV Refrigerators Due to Propane Leak Risk

Norcold is recalling specific RV refrigerators because loose gas valve screws may allow propane to leak into the passenger compartment, creating a fire risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a propane leak that can increase the risk of a fire, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural defects leading to severe hazards.

Plain-English summary

Norcold Inc. is recalling certain Norcold refrigerators, including models N305, N305.3, N306, and N306.3 (part number 635690). The recall affects 1,582 units. These refrigerators have gas valve port screws that may be missing or loose, which allows propane to leak inside the passenger compartment when the refrigerator is used in gas mode.

A propane leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire. Norcold will notify the recreational vehicle manufacturers that purchased the affected refrigerators. Dealers for those manufacturers will inspect the gas valves and tighten them if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 29, 2018.
