S&B Filters Recalls Cold Air Intake Kits for Ford Trucks
S&B Filters is recalling specific Cold Air Intake Kits for Ford Super Duty trucks because a missing hole in the battery tray may prevent proper grounding, increasing fire risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a defect that increases the risk of a fire, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural vehicle defects leading to severe hazards.
Plain-English summary
S&B Filters, Inc. is recalling certain Cold Air Intake Kits, part numbers 75-5085 and 75-5085D, sold for aftermarket installation on Ford Super Duty Powerstroke 6.7L diesel trucks. The recall involves 2,225 units.
The defect involves the battery tray, part number AL1298T-00, which may lack the necessary hole to reattach the secondary battery ground wire if the truck is equipped with one. If the secondary battery grounding wire cannot be properly attached after installing the kit, the fuse box may melt, increasing the risk of a fire.
S&B Filters has notified owners and will replace the battery tray with one that can accommodate two ground wires, free of charge. The recall began on March 13, 2018. Owners may contact S&B Filters customer service at 1-909-947-0015, option 3, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
