Grand Design Recalls 2018 Reflection Travel Trailers for Tire Clearance Issue

Grand Design is recalling 2018 Reflection travel trailers because insufficient clearance between the tire and slide-out ram can cause tire damage or blowouts.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (insufficient tire clearance) that can lead to tire blowouts and increased crash risk, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Grand Design RV, LLC is recalling certain 2018 Reflection travel trailers, model 297RSTS. The recall involves 114 vehicles that may have insufficient clearance between the tire and the ram that moves the slide-out room.

While the trailer is being towed, the tire can contact the slide-out ram, which may cause tire damage or a possible tire blowout. Tire failure can increase the risk of a crash.

Grand Design will notify owners, and dealers will install a lift kit at each of the axle hangers to provide two additional inches of clearance. Tires that show evidence of damage will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on December 14, 2017. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
