Ride the Ducks Recalls Amphibious Vehicles Due to Front Axle Fracture Risk

Ride the Ducks is recalling 1996-2005 amphibious vehicles because the front axle housing may fracture, potentially causing a loss of vehicle control.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (front axle fracture) that can lead to a loss of vehicle control and increased crash risk, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Ride the Ducks International LLC (RTDI) is recalling certain 1996-2005 "Stretch" Amphibious Passenger Vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the front axle assembly where excessive fatigue may cause the front axle housing to fracture at the connection point between the knuckle ball and the housing.

This defect may result in a loss of vehicle control, which increases the risk of a crash. The recall supersedes previous recall 16V-859 and began on September 21, 2017.

RTDI will notify company-owned operators and licensors to replace the front axles with a unit featuring a welded coupler, free of charge. Owners may contact RTDI customer service at 1-417-266-7600 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
