Strategic Sports Recalls Zox Nano Helmets Due to Impact Protection Defect

Strategic Sports is recalling specific Zox Nano Helmets because they may not adequately protect the wearer during a secondary head impact in a crash.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in a safety-critical product (motorcycle helmet) that fails to meet federal safety standards, creating a risk of injury in a crash, but no specific injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Strategic Sports, Ltd. is recalling certain Zox Nano Helmets in sizes XL through XXXXXL. The affected helmets were manufactured in February 2013 and March 2013. The helmet size and manufacture date are printed on a sewn-in black fabric label located inside the helmet.

These helmets fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 218, “Motorcycle Helmets.” The defect is that the helmets may not adequately protect the wearer in the event of a secondary head impact during a motorcycle crash. This increases the risk of injury if a rider hits the helmet twice in the same spot during a crash.

Strategic Sports will notify owners and refund the purchase price of the helmets. Owners may contact Strategic Sports at [email protected]. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
