Forest River Recalls 2017 Trailers with Incorrect Tire Pressure Placards
Forest River is recalling 2017 Rockwood and Flagstaff trailers because the tire pressure placard lists 50 PSI instead of the required 65 PSI.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where tire failure could lead to loss of control and a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Plain-English summary
Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2017 Rockwood and Flagstaff trailers manufactured between July 8, 2016, and July 11, 2016. The affected vehicles are equipped with a Federal Placard that incorrectly indicates that the ST225/75R15D tires have a recommended pressure of 50 PSI. These tires should be maintained at 65 PSI. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."
If the tires are run at a low pressure, they may overheat and fail, possibly causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will provide a corrected Federal Placard, free of charge. The recall began on September 18, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-2640. Forest River's number for this recall is 10-07192016-0230. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
