Plain-English summary
Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain model year 2011 Sonata vehicles manufactured between December 11, 2009, and October 31, 2010. The recall involves approximately 173,000 vehicles.
In the affected vehicles, the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) circuit board may be damaged, resulting in a loss of power steering assist. With a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required, especially at lower speeds, which increases the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EPS control unit free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9640 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
