Plain-English summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Honda CBR500 motorcycles manufactured between January 24, 2013, and May 14, 2015, and 2013-2015 CB500 motorcycles manufactured between January 31, 2013, and May 16, 2015. The recall affects 14,575 vehicles.
The fuel level sensor float arm on these motorcycles may become deformed due to exposure to environmental and roadway conditions. This deformation can cause the float arm to separate from the fuel level sensor body. If this occurs, the fuel meter may provide inaccurate information, or the float may contact the positive and negative terminals, causing an electrical short. Either condition may cause the vehicle to stall, which increases the risk of a crash.
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel level sensor assembly free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-310-783-2000. Honda's number for this recall is JT1. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
