Mack Trucks, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Pinnacle (CXU) trucks manufactured between February 4, 2011, and December 23, 2014. These vehicles are equipped with an air release fifth wheel latch. The recall affects 262 vehicles.
The defect involves a switch used to release the fifth wheel latch that may be inadvertently pushed. If this occurs after the parking brake has been released, the trailer may unintentionally disconnect from the tractor. An inadvertent decoupling of the trailer from the tractor may increase the risk of a crash.
Mack will notify owners, and dealers will install a secondary action that operators will need to activate before the fifth wheel will release, free of charge. The recall began on May 6, 2015.
